Johan de Witt prize

The Johan de Witt prize was established in 2010 with the aim of promoting and encouraging publication, research, and the practical application of actuarial science and the actuarial profession. Through this prize, the Royal Dutch Actuarial Association (AG) also seeks to strengthen connections with universities, students, and related academic disciplines, thereby broadening the actuarial field and increasing its visibility.

The Johan de Witt prize recognizes the best academic theses written and published between 1 September of the previous year and the submission deadline.

Who can participate?
  • Students of the Actuarieel Instituut
  • Bachelor's and Master's students in Actuarial Science
  • Bachelor's and Master's students in academic fields or disciplines related to actuarial science
Submission deadline

Please submit your thesis no later than Friday, 16 October 2026. Your submission should include:

  • A short summary of your thesis
  • A brief CV
  • An assessment or recommendation from your thesis supervisor (optional, but appreciated)

Prize

The Royal Dutch Actuarial Association awards one prize of €5,000 for the best academic thesis.

In addition to the cash prize, the winner will receive a commemorative statuette and a jury report. The winner will also be invited to present their thesis at the AG Najaarscongres, which is generally organized annually by the AG.
